Title: Forced to buy ticket out of Thailand before boarding plane to Thailand Confirmation # 8ZH7J3
Complaint by: levi0515
Against: Japan Air Lines
Complaint Number: #: 61
On 7 October 2009 my trip originated in Nashville, TN with a one way ticket to Bangkok, Thailand flying Japan airlines. The ticket was purchased through expedia travel. When I reached Chicago O'Hare Japan Airlines refused to allow me to board the continuance of my trip unless I purchased a ticket to leave thailand to the nearest country. I explained that I had been traveling to thailand for over 2 years and have never had to purchase a round trip ticket to be flown into Thailand. They sold me a ticket to Ho Chi Mihn City, Viet Nam and told me to request a refund when I arrived in Thailand. They even said they would let me speak to someone in the Thailand immigration office on the phone. This person on the phone told me that I had to purchase the ticket to enter the country. I purchased the ticket based on what I had been told. But when I arrived in Thailand the immigration officials told me they knew nothing of this law and they never asked if I had a ticket to leave. Now Japan Air Lines will not refund the full amount $240.00 they keep $50.00 and I have to wait up to 2 months before It is credited back to my account. I feel as though the money has been extorted from me in order to continue my trip to see my family. What are my rights as a consumer in this matter?
